KINGSTON â The University of Rhode Island has named Dr. E. Paul Larrat as the new interim dean of Pharmacy while their search continues for a permanent selection. Larrat, who has been a member of the universityâs Pharmacy faculty for 25 years, hopes to advance the departmentâs mission of providing well-informed and up-to-date pharmaceutical education in his role as interim dean.

EAST GREENWICH â The prospects of a new fire station being built in town got a little bit brighter last week.
East Greenwich Fire Chief Peter F. Henrikson addressed to the Board of Fire Commissioners Thursday evening, recommending that the Fire District enter a purchase and sales agreement for the site at the corner of Cedar Avenue and Post Road in the hopes of constructing a new Station 1.

HOPKINTONâA public hearing was held Monday night on an ordinance amendment meant to help taxpayers, and will come up for a vote at the town councilâs next meeting.
The amendment, introduced by Hopkinton Town Council President Frank Landolfi, is one of the âsmall things we can do to helpâ the taxpayersâwithout affecting the town financiallyâthat he said he is always looking for.

NARRAGANSETT - Liquor licenses and entertainment restrictions were the topic of discussion at Monday nightâs town council meeting with three area eateries requesting liquor license approval. Cool Beans, the Bike Stop CafĂ© and The Break, to be opened at 1200 Ocean Road, were on the agenda in anticipation of public hearing. All hearings were scheduled for the councilâs April 15 meeting of the council.

WESTERLY - The Rhode Island Office of Attorney General and the Rhode Island Department of Health announced Tuesday that they will hold public informational meetings later this month concerning the proposed sale of Westerly Hospital to Lawrence & Memorial Corporation.
The public is invited to attend the public informational meetings scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, at the Westerly Middle School, 10 Sandy Hill Road, Westerly. Public comment will be accepted during the scheduled public informational meetings.
