NK taxpayers voice concerns over budget

NORTH KINGSTOWN – For the first time this season, members of the public had a chance to speak their mind about the proposed fiscal year 2012/2013 budgets for both the North Kingstown School Department and the town as a whole.
And speak they did.
After a short public hearing on the municipal budget yielded a small turnout, the NK town council reconveyed after an hour-long recess to discuss the school budget with Superintendent Dr. Philip Auger and a large crowd inside the high school auditorium.

CRMC rejects Matunuck Beach Road plan

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – For decades, South Kingstown and the Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) have tried to come up with a solution that would simultaneously protect Matunuck Beach Road from falling into the ocean and preserve the environment’s natural process.

In 2012, the town and the state are still looking for that solution.

QDC announces plan to remove the red tape

NORTH KINGSTOWN – A new permitting tool has been implemented within the Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) that will streamline the permit process on available parcels of land within the business park.
In a special ceremony Monday morning, QDC officials unveiled the Site-Readiness program, an effort that they say will cut the entire permitting process for a potential business looking to develop one of the 35 remaining pacels in the Quonset Business Park down from years to just 90 days.

CHARLESTOWN - While much transpired at Monday night’s town council meeting in Charlestown, many important decisions were continued until later dates. The meeting started later than usual following the council’s executive session, and continued deep into the night. The town administrator’s performance, the future of Ninigret Park, and homeowner tax relief were all discussed at the lengthy meeting.

Broad Rock Park will receive DEM funds for upgrades

SOUTH KINGSTOWN—The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced on Thursday the recipients of matching funds for recreational open space development. Although the greatest portion of funding has been awarded to the larger, urban centers of Rhode Island, Broad Rock Park in South Kingstown will receive $53,000 for upgrades to the baseball field and Dog Park there. Another $53,000 will be matched through local capital improvement funding.
