EG police officers honored for heroism

EAST GREENWICH — Five members of the East Greenwich Police Department were given a hero’s honor for their part in helping save the life of a local resident from possible Carbon Monoxide poisoning in her own home.
Lt. Brian Clement, Sgt. Stephen Garrett, Patrolmen David Petrucci and John Allen and Dispatcher James Aveyard were recognized at Swift Community Center Monday evening by Town officials and East Greenwich Police Chief Thomas Coyle for their heroism on the morning of March 1.

Climate change expert says towns must adapt

NARRAGANSETT – Hurricane Sandy devastated many cities and towns last October when it tore up the East Coast.
Nearly eight months later, as rebuilding and recovery efforts still continue in many places, one major question still stands, according to Dr. William Solecki, climate change expert, professor at Hunter College of The City University of New York (CUNY) and director of the CUNY Institute for Sustainable Cities.

Property stolen from NK Senior Center

June 25, 2013

NORTH KINGSTOWN — On the weekend of June 10, the North Kingstown Senior Center at 15 Beach St. was robbed of more than $3,500 worth in patio equipment. The larceny, which remains under investigation, occurred between the evening of June 7 and morning of June 10.

SK man sentenced in DUI-related death

June 25, 2013

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The man charged with the driving under the influence-related death of 23-year-old Erica Knowles in February 2012 was sentenced to prison Monday in Washington County Superior Court.

Dean C. Philbrick, 48, of South Kingstown, pleaded no contest to one count of driving under the influence – death resulting and one count of driving to endanger – death resulting.
