Christy to lead SK Firefighters Memorial Parade

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Lt. John “Jack” Christy, president of the Tuckertown Fire Department, will lead this year’s South Kingstown Firefighters Memorial Parade as grand marshal Sunday.
Christy is a humble man who has been serving our country as an officer and a firefighter since 1953.
“I’ve been at the Tuckertown Fire Department for 23 years,” Lt. Christy said in a recent interview. “I’ve been volunteering for 60 years [as a firefighter].”
Before Christy came to South County he lived and worked in New Jersey putting out fires and held a job in the commercial boating industry.

24-hour convenience store denied,for now

NARRAGANSETT- Due to the absence of town council member Doug Mclaughlin, the motion for the Shell Gasoline Station and Seasons Convenience Store, 1015 Boston Neck Road, to operate a 24-hour convenience store was denied with a vote of 2-2 during the meeting Monday.
Due to McLaughlin’s absence, Town Solicitor Mark McSally stated that the motion couldn’t be approved. Town Council President James Callaghan said that the applicants can return to the council in the future for approval of this motion but due to the split vote of the members present during the meeting, it could not be approved.

Miozzi Asphalt Company, offered to form a coalition with residents who have had complaints about plant noise, air quality, hours of operation, heavy truck traffic and truck noise for more than a year now.

Hetherman named new CFD treasurer

COVENTRY — A new treasurer was hired during Wednesday’s Coventry Fire District Board of Director’s meeting.
Judith Hetherman, a long-time Coventry resident, will be maintaining bill payment and keeping track of expeditures on a part-time basis.
