Councilman proposes Deepwater Wind talks be suspended until July 1
NARRAGANSETT - Freshman council member, Matthew Mannix, called for a suspension of negotiations with Deepwater Wind sending a formal motion to suspend and supporting memorandum to Town Clerk Anne Irons for placement on the April 1 town council agenda.

Town teams up with URI to better understand sea level rise
NORTH KINGSTOWNâAt Monday eveningâs town council meeting, Teresa Crean of the University of Rhode Islandâs Coastal Resources Center (CRC) presented the town with an initiative that research group has been working on in conjunction with the townâs planning department. Last year, the CRC received a $100,000 grant to develop a program which examined sea level rise and associated climate change effects in North Kingstown.

Opinion divided on benefit of Post Road lane reductions
NORTH KINGSTOWNâOn Monday evening, the town council listened to representatives from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) outline their plans for a new look to Post Road, giving the townâs main thoroughfare what is called a âroad diet.â

Multiple residents shared opinions about gay marriage during 12-hour session
Seeing a sea of people flood the rotunda and the Senate chamber at the State House Thursday evening was quite the profound experience for District 35 State Senator Dawson Hodgson.
It was also one of the many sights during what was an extremely long evening for both the Senate Judiciary Committee and Rhode Island residents who are on both sides of the same-sex marriage debate in the capital city.

With help of his mother and volunteers, Jack Ryan donated 150 Easter baskets to Crossroads
It was just a simple idea thought of by Jack Ryan, the son of New England Invitations owner Pamela DâOrsi-Ryan, where he wanted to make Easter baskets for needy children in the area.
Five years ago, the mother-and-son team made approximately eight baskets and donated them to charity. From there, other residents and community members offered to help to expand the gesture.
And boy did it expand.

Despite âprivate nuisanceâ to neighbors, court wonât shut down business
WESTERLY â A Superior Court judge ruled Monday that Copar Quarries of Bradford can continue quarrying, as long as the company takes steps to âalter its processesâ and correct the âprivate nuisanceâ the judge said Copar poses to its neighbors.

KINGSTON â While still under investigation, Daniel E. Doyle Jr., former executive director of the Institute for International Sport at the University of Rhode Island, has published a book.
Doyleâs novel, âAn African Rebound,â is due out April 9, according to Amazon.com.

Recent spat of heavy weather responsible for damage to school
NARRAGANSETT - High winds and heavy rains created more grief for the townâs facilities team earlier this month, as the most recent ration of foul weather delivered another costly blow, tearing a large portion of the Narragansett Pier Middle School roof away from its bearings.
âWhen it started, we donât know,â Gary F. Minett, facilities director, said at last weekâs school committee meeting. âThe last big wind storm we had caused the roof to come apart. It is a rubber roof that is glued to the insulation underneath. The glue held and the storm tore the insulation out.â

Justin âJuddâ McGill benefit takes place Saturday, April 6 at Mettatuxet Yacht Club
NARRAGANSETT - Justin McGill woke up on a Friday morning in February and headed for the YMCA for an early morning swim - a routine he had become accustomed to as part of his weekly workouts that included swimming, biking, running and yoga. The 41-year-old Narragansett resident, husband, and father of three, didnât have any inclination as to what was to come.
âI felt fine,â said McGill. âI got to the Y and swam early. Sometimes I go at 5 a.m. I had just finished 10 100-meter sets and was doing some fin work under water. I felt a strange sensation in my chest.â

COVENTRY â According to Coventryâs NECAP numbers, most of the districtâs schools are above the state average, with a few exceptions.
According to the report, the majority of reading and math testing for grades three through six in all five elementary schools (Blackrock, Tiogue, Hopkins Hill, Washington Oak and Western Coventry) surpassed state averages.
