Destiny Africa Children's Choir to perform Thursday in Kingston

KINGSTON- The University of Rhode Island Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies is presenting the Destiny Africa Children’s Choir on Thursday, October 12, 7 p.m., at the URI Fine Arts Center.
Destiny Africa is a choir from Kampala Children’s Centre (KCC) in Uganda that raises their voices in song, hope and joy. The children’s Centre rescues children from war-town areas to offer them love, education, and a family environment which nurtures them to become agents of transformation.

Walk-a-While-Wednesdays promote fitness on campus

KINGSTON- Students and Faculty at the University of Rhode Island joined together to kick off the URI Community “Walk-a-While Wednesdays” on Wednesday, Oct.2.
The “Walk- a While” event was created by the College of Human Science and Services and the Department of Kinesiology as way to promote and improve fitness around the campus. Students and faculty from the Department of Kinesiology acted as walking coaches during the lunch time stroll and will be present every Wednesday to guide walkers through each work session.

Students, faculty debate arming campus police

KINGSTON—On Monday afternoon, a panel of University of Rhode Island staff and faculty were on hand to field questions regarding the potential of arming campus police. The recent impetus for allowing campus police officers, who currently work unarmed, to carry weapons as a means of student and faculty safety stems from last April’s gun scare at URI.
