SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The South Kingstown Town Council voted unanimously Monday night to amend the town’s liquor license regulations, changing the number of Class B Limited licenses from five to four.
Paul Kay, of Woodhouse Fire N Coal Pizza on Main Street, relinquished his Class B Limited liquor license through a Nov. 30 letter, prompting the change to the town’s regulations.

NARRAGANSETT -Members of the newly elected Narragansett Town Council remain uniformed about the process and potential outcome of the town’s search for a new town manager. The search committee, which was created in July by the council to assist in researching and interviewing potential candidates, is still convened and searching for final candidates.
“We’ve kind of been thrown in the middle of it,” said Town Council President James Callaghan. “I can’t comment on the process because I don’t know much about it. Hopefully, we can get the committee’s thoughts soon.”

NARRAGANSETT - At Tuesday’s Recreation Advisory Board meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Steven Wright gave an update on the town’s cleanup work post-Hurricane Sandy, as well as provide information on the status of a number of town buildings that have been identified for renovations by Wright.
“A lot of our buildings have not had any money put into them, and I am not a big advocate of throwing good money into bad,” said Wright.

NARRAGANSETT- With three new members and two incumbents, the Narragansett Town Council kicked off its first meeting on Monday evening. James M. Callaghan, president, Matthew M. Mannix and Douglas E. McLaughlin were the new faces on the dais while Susan Cicilline-Buonanno, president pro tem, and Glenna M. Hagopian continued in their elected roles. Also present were Anne M. Irons, town clerk, Police Chief F. Dean Hoxsie, acting town manager, and Mark A. McSally, town solicitor.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Union Fire District crews extinguished a trailer fire early Friday morning on Matunuck Beach Road.
According to Deputy Chief Steven Pinch, crews from the Peace Dale, Wakefield, Forestry and Matunuck stations, along with South Kingstown Police and EMS, responded to the scene at 2:33 a.m. Friday.
Upon arrival, crews found the trailer fully engulfed, but were able to extinguish the blaze within two hours.
The State Fire Marshal, South Kingstown Police and Union Fire District are investigating the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported.

NARRAGANSETT - The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is finishing its work to repair the sea wall in Narragansett Pier after it was significantly damaged by the impact of Hurricane Sandy. The storm, which stripped the town beach of much of its sand and severely damaged buildings such as the Coast Guard House, also struck the sea wall with devastating force, breaking up the sidewalk and tearing out a 200 foot section of the wall itself.
Frank Corrao, III, Deputy Chief Engineer at RIDOT, provided an update on the repair work that has been done over the past several weeks.

COVENTRY — Carpentry students at Coventry High School took what they learned in the classroom and constructed a giant gazebo, which ultimately benefited the Tomorrow Fund.
Carpentry teacher, Scott Leavitt explained that this was the sixth year his junior and senior students had built a structure to raise money for the organization.
He said it all began one day when a woman approached him in the carpentry shop at school.
“I didn’t know who she was but her mother worked at the high school,” he said. “She came in and asked if we could build a kids playhouse for the Tomorrow Fund.”

PROVIDENCE—University of Rhode Island President David Dooley spoke to a gathering of media outlets at the Rhode Island Foundation on Wednesday to discuss the university’s achievements over the past year, as well as outline the institution’s future goals and overall vision.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The South Kingstown School Committee voted Tuesday night to suspend the election of chair and vice-chair/clerk until after the annual summer retreat and they have received the communications subcommittee’s restructuring report.
The motion was initiated by Scott Mueller and school committee members voted six to one to approve the motion with newly elected member Jonathan Daly-LaBelle dissenting.
