Board of Elections calls it a night; Mail-in ballot results won't be available until Thursday

November 7, 2012

We've got an update on the mail-in ballot situation.
According to multiple sources, the state's Board of Elections has called it quits today in its attempt to count an estimated 18,000 mail-in ballots statewide and will resume the task tomorrow.
The Standard-Times spoke to representatives from the board and they insist that final numbers in the local contested races will be released at the same time. You can view updates on the board's website at (http://www.ri.gov/election/results/2012/general_election/).

Elections too close to call in NK, Exeter

November 7, 2012

Election night has come and gone and there are still a number of unsettled races in North Kingstown and Exeter.
With an estimated 1,100 mail-in ballots left to be counted in NK, a total of six votes separated incumbent NK Town Council member Carol Hueston from Independent candidate Colin O'Sullivan for the fifth and final seat on the council.
In Exeter, meanwhile, Bob Johnson currently trails Republican Dan Patterson by four votes with 130 mail-in ballots remaining.

CURMUDGEON'S CORNER: NK voters should approve all four local ballot questions(OPINION)

November 7, 2012

On November 6th, North Kingstown voters will decide on four amendments to the town charter. As a member of this year’s charter revision commission, let me explain the rationale for these changes.
The first question deals with limiting the terms of appointed members of boards, commissions and committees to 12 consecutive years, after which the citizen would have to take two years off before being reappointed. However, if the person has special qualifications the town council may reappoint him or her by unanimous vote. For example, this might apply to the planning board or audit committee.
