CHARLESTOWN â The Town Council held a public workshop on Thursday, June 23 at Ninigret Park to provide residents with information about the townâs Wind Generation Ordinance. Town Council President Thomas Gentz was on hand to give an update on the project and introduce two other speakers.
While not too many people showed up because of the rainy weather, Gentz said that those who did come acquired some new knowledge about the ordinance.
âWe had about 12 citizens there,â he said, âand they asked a lot of good questions and they learned a lot.â
SOUTH KINGSTOWN â Although the state General Assembly provided an additional $500,000 to South County Hospital to help cover the costs of services for people who do not have insurance or are unable to pay, the hospital still faces a significant budget shortfall.

Fourth-graders at Eldredge Elementary School may have heard a few stories from their âSenior Buddiesâ at Greenwich Bay Manor about the old days, when household tasks required more labor than simply pushing a button or manipulating handheld electronic gadgets.
In that spirit, students showed their elder pals their inventive side recently on their final visit of the 2011-12 school year to the senior residence.

CHARLESTOWN -- On Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., those who love the art and antiques will find an exciting new cultural event and sale happening in Ninigret Park. The antique and art sale is called the Sea Star Marketplace and is being put on by the Frosty Drew Nature Center & Observatory, a local nonprofit educational organization, as a fund-raiser.

WOOD RIVER JCT. â Monday, June 20 was not only the last day of spring, it was the last day of school for the students of Chariho Middle School.
As the buses drove off the school grounds filled with students for the last time until September, a large group of teachers and staff gave them a final farewell.

The recent rescue of a kayaker from a Narragansett Bay buoy wasnât quite all in a dayâs work for the East Greenwich Fire Districtâs Marine 1 crew.
âIt was two guys with binoculars, looking for a needle in a haystack,â Deputy Chief Russell McGillivray said of the June 9 rescue of a North Kingstown kayaker whose boat capsized during a vicious thunderstorm that ripped through the bay.
