State Environment Council awards announced

PROVIDENCE -- Each year four outstanding community conservation projects are recognized statewide as Sen. John Chafee Conservation Leadership Projects. These projects are undertaken and completed by local leaders and provide significant benefits to the community and to the state. This year 25 applications were received, only four of them will receive Sen. John Chafee recognition honors.

Narragansett woman arrested for elderly exploitation, abuse

NARRAGANSETT– Officers executed a search warrant at 144 South Pier Road Wednesday morning in relation to an arrest warrant for Tracy Anderson, 44, for the abuse and exploitation of an elderly person with severe handicaps. NPD also obtained various documents and a combination safe during their search.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Peter Leviten is a busy man: four days a week he commutes from Saunderstown to his job in Massachusetts as an advertising copywriter for the Bose corporation, and he divides his time between cities.
“For two days, it’s 72 miles each way; for another two days, it’s 85 miles each way,” he explains.
Now, adding to his travels – but in a pleasant way – he has taken up long-distance cycling. On May 1, he will participate in Cycle the Seacoast, in Portsmouth, N.H., joining others in biking 100 miles to benefit the American Lung Association.
