Changes to Program of Studies?

EAST GREENWICH — East Greenwich High School Principal Michael Podraza brought forth to the School Committee at Tuesday’s meeting at Cole Middle School an overview of significant changes to the school’s Program of Studies that affects a number of curriculums.

The changes are a reaction, Podraza said, of policies that are being done in terms of highschool reform, from initial guidance by the state in setting “multiple pathways” where students can receive credit.

EGFD unveils ethics code

EAST GREENWICH — It’s not about discipline. It’s about common sense and representing the East Greenwich Fire District.

That was the message Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Douglas Axelsen and Deputy Chief Russell McGillivray hope to send with the district’s new Code of Ethics, composed by McGillivray as part of the district’s Standard Operating Guide that governs firefighters’ behavior. The new code was adopted unanimously by the board last Thursday.

Committee approves plans that will alter EG

PROVIDENCE – Senators and Representatives of District 35, which encompasses most of East Greenwich, may face a whole new set of voters in several other towns, now that the state’s redistricting commission has endorsed three plans that will radically alter voting districts throughout the state.

In Room 313 at the State House Monday evening, the 17 members of the Special Committee on Reapportionment voted 11-6 to approve the new statewide district map under Congress Plan F; and 17-0 to approve the new districts proposed under Senate Plan E as amended and House Plan D, as amended.

NK man guilty of possessing child porn

NORTH KINGSTOWN – A North Kingstown man pleaded guilty in Providence federal court Tuesday morning to being in possession of over 7,500 images of child pornography.
Leon Tousignant, 67, of 2180 Tower Hill Road, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography and could face up to 10 years in a federal prison with a supervised release for a term of five years to life, and up to a $250,000 fine when he’s sentenced on March 15, 2012 before Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mary Lisi.
