The Rocky Hill School Board of Trustees approved and appointed Mr. Jonathan M. Schoenwald as the eighth Head of School, effective July 1, 2011. The Board's decision followed the unanimous recommendation of the Search Committee. Mr. Schoenwald will succeed alumnus Mr. James J. Young III '70, who announced his departure last spring after serving 16 years as Headmaster.
Jonathan comes to Rocky Hill School from Hunter College in New York City where he has been the Director of the Macaulay Honors College since 2005.

NARRAGANSETTâ€“The five-person school committee and superintendent met on Wednesday and the first agenda item became Southern Rhode Island Regional Collaborative (SORICO). The collaborative is a non-profit cooperative educational service involving Block Island, Chariho, East Greenwich, Exeter/West Greenwich, Jamestown, Narragansett, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, and Westerly. The organization was established in 1988 and involved eight high schools, 11 middle schools, and 33 elementary schools was intended to regionalize services for the area. Recently, South Kingstown, West Greenwich, and North Kingstown withdrew during their school committee meetings while Chariho did not.
Panera Bread recently presented a check to the South County Hospital Breast Health Program.
The proceeds of $1013.00 were the result of Panera Bread's annual Pink Bagel and Cater Pink campaign. South County Hospital Breast Health Coordinator Marie McCormick and Breast Health Nurse Marilyn Favali accepted the check for the hospital.
The funds will be used to purchase resources for the South County Hospital Cancer Resource Library.
At the request of the East Greenwich Fire Districtâ€™s Board of Commissioners, the Town Council has agreed to participate in the study of a possible consolidation of the district and the town.
The council voted unanimously Monday night to participate in the study, and also appointed Jeffrey B. Cianciolo as its liaison to the district.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN--Possible tuition increases await URI students if the university's requested operational budget is not approved. Governor-elect Lincoln Chafee will make a recommendation for funding either next month or at the beginning of February.

Providence, RI - Citizens Bank recently partnered with Children's Friend for their annual Spirit of Giving Holiday Drive. More than 70 Citizens executives spent an evening shopping for gifts for 45 children to benefit Children's Friend families.
