Road race continues to build

August 8, 2013

MATUNUCK—It’s a sad but true commentary on most memorial races.
“With most races for people who have passed away what happens is people stop showing up,” veteran race runner Matt Pelletier said.
“People have families and you can’t make it anymore, your kids have soccer practice and it kind of just trickles away as the field goes from 800 to 500, then the last year you have 100 and it just kind of fades away.”
Rest assured though, the Run4Kerri does not appear to be going anywhere.

Schooners navigate through Waves

August 8, 2013

GROTON, CONN.—Throughout the New England Collegiate Baseball League season the Ocean State Waves more or less handled the Mystic Schooners.
The Waves took four of six regular season match ups and did so in convincing fashion, outscoring the Schooners 42-15 in the process.
The playoffs are a whole different animal though and as Monday’s contest proved, the Schooners were a much improved team compared to the one the Waves saw earlier this summer.

SK falls to NK in semis

NARRAGANSETT – Even in the dead of summer, when the wins are not necessarily as important, a bitter rivalry will always show through. That was the case on Monday evening when the South and North Kingstown High School boys basketball teams met in the summer league semi-finals at Christofaro Park. The two young teams battled with neither team relenting over the game’s 40 minutes, but in the end it was North Kingstown running away with a 51-38 victory to advance to the finals.
