WAKEFIELD â Although bookstore locals will lament the loss of Waldenbooks, which will close Jan. 22 after 31 years of service at the Wakefield Mall, they can breathe a sigh of relief as Wakefield Books will likely take its place.
Waldenbooks began its closing store sale after its employees were notified of the closing. Borders, the company that owns Waldenbooks, did not renew the storeâs lease at the mall.
As the bookstore, known for its customer-friendly employees, featured huge sales just before the holidays, some customers were saddened by the news of its closing.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN â As 2011 approaches, it's time to make up for the past by making a New Year Resolution and hoping that, over the next 12 months, you will follow it through.
Members of the South Kingstown Town Council and School Committee are no different.

WARWICK-- The College Planning Center of Rhode Island (CPCRI) will extend operating hours beginning Jan. 4, 2011 to accommodate the rush of students and parents scurrying to get their Free Application for Federal Student Aid - more commonly referred to as the FAFSA - and other financial aid forms submitted prior to college deadlines.
This is the final column of the year 2010... well into the fifth year of writing this column. Time flies. But we know that. No sense in kicking that dead platitude. Life is full of these little sayings that we apply when the situation fits.
âThereâs no fool like an old fool.â
âYouth is wasted on the young. â
âCuriosity killed the cat.â
âLook before you leap.â
Hereâs another one: âeverything in moderation,â which means go just so farâ and no furtherâand everything will be all right. Pass that line and terror awaits.

WAKEFIELDâThree barbers at Jordanâs New Style snip, clip, and chat on Wakefieldâs Main Street.
The previous barbershop relocated after a flood destroyed what had been a cozy basement spot filled with pool tables and the usual haircut mischief. The shopâs owners decided not to sign a new lease and instead moved to a new spot on Columbia Street.
They left but the barber pole stayed.
Adam Lavelle, 19, grew up in the Chariho region and learned to cut hair with his friends. Heâll buzz skulls, trim chin spinach, and give you a âfreshy.â But donât be frightened, parents; that is just Adamâs slang for trimming your neck hair. By his senior year of high school he knew it is what he wanted to do with life.

It is a discerning listener who can stomach a bad band.
If you have been morbidly obese for years, are sick of it, frustrated with failed diets, or scared of invasive surgery, you might listen and discern when surgeons at Kent Hospital talk about a good band for your stomach.
