It was a great weekend for the URI baseball team as they took the series 2-1 against the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
The Rams breezed by the Minutemen 9-2 in the first game this past Friday.
UMass took an early lead when it scored on an RBI double in the top of the second but the visitors advantage didn’t make it through the inning.
Over the past six years no one has done more for the South Kingstown High girls lacrosse team than Jeff Feaster.
When the program began in 2007 Feaster was an assistant under Medelise Reifsteck and in 2008 he took over as head coach.
The closest thing he had to experience coaching lacrosse was watching his daughter play for the local lacrosse club.
After last year’s successes, the South Kingstown High baseball team opened their 2013 season with a lot of promise as they took to the field for their opener on Monday in Portsmouth.
Only one team stood between the Narragansett High baseball team and a berth to the Final Four of the Division II Tournament last season; Woonsocket.
Some coaches may be taken aback by five straight losses in the championship.

The Southern Connecticut softball team appeared solid entering the season except for one position – right field. Sophomore Sarah Koerner ended all questions when she took over that spot for the Owls.
Koerner, from Coventry (Coventry High), is hitting .333 (24-for-72) with two triples, six RBI and 10 runs scored. She has five stolen bases.
Where some see struggle and turmoil, head coach Kristen Need sees positivity and hope as her Prout girls lacrosse team embarks on their 2013 schedule.
It has been a rough go for the Crusaders since they made the jump to Division I prior to the 2011 season.
NARRAGANSETT—The Narragansett boys Tennis team is only three matches into the season and it sounds like they are ready to handle anything that comes their way.
The Cranston West boys tennis team didn’t lose a single match last season and finished a perfect 18-0 en route to the Division II Championship.
During the Falcons’ run only one team – Prout – seriously threatened to upend West’s run as the No. 5 seed Crusaders’ were one point away from shocking the odd-on favorites in the D-II Semifinals.
