Police nab suspect in area break-ins

SOUTH KINGSTOWN - Five breaking and entering investigations in South Kingstown and three in Narragansett were solved on Friday with the arrest of Allan Jett, 57, of Cranston.

Jett is the defendant in eight breaking and entering cases, including New Dragon, Dunkin Donuts, O’Neil’s Package Store, Hal’s Service Station, The Breakfast Nook II, Food for Thought, Go Pasta! and Estia’s Restaurant. He also confessed to 19 breaking and entering charges in Providence.

NCAC gets a boost from sunset cruise

June 11, 2014

NARRAGANSETT – Some 120 Narragansett residents gathered at Quonset Point on Thursday evening for a sunset cruise to raise money for the new Narragansett Community Athletic Complex.

The cruise, which took place aboard the Ava Pearl, a Rhode Island Fast Ferry, traveled round-trip from Quonset Point to Newport Harbor, passing 10 lighthouses along the way.

Town beach gets a facelift from new projects

NARRAGANSETT – The Recreation Advisory Board met on Monday evening to discuss projects and budgetary updates regarding Narragansett Town Beach.

Recreation Advisory Board Chair Keith Kyle detailed the completion of several beach-related projects, including adding new waste receptacles to improve the overall look and feel of the property. The new barrels will replace the old, 55-gallon barrels which are now becoming rusted and unsightly. Upon hearing the news, new member of the board Pat Brady expressed his appreciation for Kyle making this initiative.

Top NHS students prepared for new challenges

June 11, 2014

NARRAGANSETT - Narragansett High School Valedictorian Jake Rost and Salutatorian Leah Benz are excited to take on the world using the skills taught to them by the teachers at NHS.

The daughter of Jamie and Fritz Benz of Narragansett, Leah will be attending Georgetown University in the fall to study linguistics and foreign languages. She is the Student Council President and participates in Theater Club, World Language Club, Student Government, and is Co-President of the Honor Society alongside Rost.
