DEM announces up to $5 million in open space grants

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management is now accepting applications from municipalities, land trusts, and non-profit land conservation organizations for Rhode Island Local Open Space Matching Grants. A total of up to $5 million is available during this round of the grant program.

Planning board approves parking-storage area for Masse Buick GMC

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The planning board voted unanimously Tuesday to grant development plan approval to Paul Masse Buick GMC South, Inc., to construct a 125-space paved parking/vehicle storage area at its 2909 Tower Hill Road location.

John Kenyon, attorney for Paul Masse Buick GMC South, said that the town council voted to amend the comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance to change the zoning from residential to commercial neighborhood. He said the use of the space would be limited to the parking and storage and vehicles.

Pier council votes to refer Middlebridge plan to Land Conservancy Trust

NARRAGANSETT – The Narragansett Town Council voted 4-0 Monday to refer the proposed Middlebridge Management Plan to the Narragansett Land Conservancy for review and comment.

Town staff drafted the management plan following a Jan. 6 work session where the town council discussed how to best manage the 9.5-acre property, which the town purchased in August 2012 for $1.5 million.

The Land Conservancy Trust will review the plan during its meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Winter Street subdivision hearing continued until April 8

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The public hearing before the planning board regarding Sheldon Hill, formerly known as the Winter Street subdivision, will continue on April 8.

The board held a preliminary plan public hearing Tuesday on the proposed 10-lot subdivision on the south side of Winter Street. The board approved the master plan for the project in August.

SKMB announce introduction of SK Music Hall of Fame

March 19, 2014

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Testifying to the school committee and administration last Tuesday night in the company of several all-state musicians and parents, the South Kingstown Music Boosters (SKMB) announced the introduction of the South Kingstown Music Hall of Fame.

“The district’s contribution to the music program has been notable, commendable and has produced solid results,” said Wendy Bucci, SKMB president. “Everyone has a story about their favorite musician, favorite ensemble or favorite performance that they heard. We talked about being more like a team. With teams, you have hall of fames.”
