Local officials honor past service and history of Fire District, usher in whole new beginning

EAST GREENWICH — When Nicholas Montville pinned the Captain’s badge on the coat of his father, Kenneth Montville, the look of pride and joy on the elder Montville’s face symbolized the tremendous excitement about the future he now has with the East Greenwich Fire Department.
However, he wasn’t the only one possessing that feeling.
The other firefighters were sharing that same joy.

KINGSTON – Diplomas in hand, 241 graduates of the South Kingstown High School Class of 2013 proceeded across the stage Monday at the Ryan Center, prepared to move on to a new phase of life be it college, the military or a career.

Exeter residents call for removal of council members

June 21, 2013

EXETER—Earlier this month, a group of Exeter residents submitted their signatures to form a petition committee, aiming to canvass the public about removing four of five Exeter Town Council members. The move comes in response to discontent regarding the council’s resolution to place concealed weapons permitting in the hands of the Attorney General’s Office, removing the responsibility from the town clerk.

North Kingstown gets assist from EPA in climate change study

NORTH KINGSTOWN—The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be giving a boost to North Kingstown’s efforts in analyzing climate change, announcing last week that it will send a consulting team to Rhode Island as part of its Smart Growth program to examine the economic impacts of environmental issues such as sea level rise and natural disasters.

Council wants tri-town meeting on Chariho Act

RICHMOND – The Richmond Town Council is calling for a tri-town meeting to discuss possible revisions to the Chariho Act.
On Tuesday, councilors expressed their disappointment with the Charlestown Town Council’s seeming opposition to a review and possible revision of the Chariho Act, a statute drafted in 1958, which created the Chariho Regional School District and governs its operations.

Third strike for Chariho school budget

WOOD RIVER JUNCTION — Voters rejected the Chariho school budget in a third referendum Tuesday night. At 1,358 to 376, the final count sent a clear message that $54,100 of further cuts from the last budget’s level-funded amount were not enough to satisfy the residents of the Charlestown, Richmond and Hopkinton.

Tefft pleads no contest to murder charge
