Narragansett Town Beach open for swimming, North Kingstown beach still closed

NARRAGANSETT - Narragansett Town Beach reopened Friday, after being closed to swimming last Wednesday and Thursday due to high bacteria levels.

North Kingstown Town Beach remained closed to swimming on Monday, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

Hopkinton council to address budget tonight

June 17, 2013

HOPKINTON - For the first time in Hopkinton history, voters rejected the town's budget last week by a vote of 224 against and 184 in favor of the budget.

According to the town charter, if a budget fails, the town council resorts to an alternative budget, which is in alignment with the previous year's budget.

The Hopkinton Town Council will take action on the budget tonight, at 7 p.m., at the Hopkinton Town Hall.

The outcome will be in this week's Chariho Times.

Over 400 runners show for Katie DeCubellis race

NARRAGANSETT - Walkers and runners of all ages joined together at the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Fund (KDMF) race on Sunday to help raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and distracted driving. The 5K race was in honor of Katie DeCubellis, who was killed by a drunk driver when she was 13 years old in October 1999.

LeBlanc pleads his case for Whalerock

CHARLESTOWN – The Charlestown Zoning Board held a second public hearing last Wednesday, another in what is expected to be a series of several, as the zoning board determines whether to allow Whalerock Renewable Energy LLC to erect two wind turbines in the town.
Turnout was still fairly strong at the latest meeting.
