ON CAMPUS: Career game for Georgio

Al Georgio had a career game for the Norwich football team last weekend.
Georgio, a junior from West Greenwich (Exeter-West Greenwich), carried the ball 27 times for 193 yards in the Cadets’ 31-14 victory over Worcester Poly. He scored on runs of 33 and 11 yards and also caught four passes for 45 yards including a 4-yard score. His effort earned him Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – When North plays South, the intensity always takes a step up and with the recent struggles of late for the girls soccer teams of North and South Kingstown, it was the kind of game both needed when they met Wednesday night at NK’s Perry Athletic Complex, from which North came away with a 1-0 win.

Wind turbine ordinance draft discussed

EAST GREENWICH — Could one of those wind turbines that have recently popped up around the state possibly find a home in East Greenwich?

That idea was kicked around by members of the East Greenwich Planning Board last Wednesday evening at Town Hall, where the six-member quorum spend a little over an hour discussing the topic of having the alternative energy source find a home in the small community.

WWII vet to soar this weekend

A local World War II veteran will be spreading his proverbial wings down to the Nation’s Capital this weekend.

Raymond Anderson, a 93-year-old East Greenwich resident who once served with the United States Navy before being honorably discharged in December of 1945, will be on a plane flying south from T.F. Green Airport to Washington, D.C. as part of the ‘Honor Flight,’ an event held by the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs (RIAFC), this Saturday morning.

Hodgson running for Attorney General?

Could a local state senator be in the running for the Office of Attorney General in 2014?

According to previously published reports, District 35 Sen. Dawson Hodgson (R – East Greenwich, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Narragansett) recently expressed interest in throwing his name into the ring for the state’s attorney general position, a job currently being held by Peter F. Kilmartin, next election season.

KCWA rep: 'This hasn't happened before'

EAST GREENWICH — Just one day after it issued a county-wide, boil-water advisory, Peter Masterson, the East Greenwich representative for the Kent County Water Authority, gave the East Greenwich Town Council and Interim Town Manager Thomas Coyle Monday evening an update on the status of the temporary mandate.
