HARRISVILLEâFew players have left their mark on the Chariho girls lacrosse program like seniors Hannah Baker and Mattie Russell.
Now the record books will show just that.
Friday the seniors scored seven goals apiece in a 25-11 rout of the Burillville-North Smithfield Co-op to break the team record for most goals in one game.
âWhen we played Westerly [April 8] I got six goals and we had no idea during the whole game that it tied the record,â Russell said. âWe were like, âoh, we could have gotten the record! But weâll get them next time.â
SOUTH KINGSTOWNâMore often than not, when the Chariho, South and North Kingstown outdoor track teams get together for a tri-meet it usually decides the Southern Division regular season champ.
The season is still far from over but after Mondayâs meet the Skippers are in the driverâs seat to claim their fourth regular season division title in a row.
In a battle of unbeaten teams North emerged with a 104-50 victory over South and a 107.5-45.5 win over Chariho, leaving just Mondayâs meet with West Warwick (2-5) and Westerly (0-2) all that stands between NK and the division title.
WEST WARWICK â The last time the West Warwick baseball team suffered back-to-back mercy-rule defeats the Wizards were playing alongside North Kingstown, South Kingstown and the rest of Division Iâs best.
Chariho, which reached a Division I regional final last year but hasnât found much success in the stateâs highest division over the last two decades, dropped down to Division II this season and reminded the Wizards what itâs like to play a D-I team Thursday afternoon at McCarthy Field.
PAWTUCKETâIt has been a strong start to date for the Exeter-West Greenwich High School boys tennis team.
Coming off a .500 season last year the Knights have rattled off three straight wins to start their season at 3-1, following a 6-1 win over Shea High School last Thursday.
COVENTRY â There arenât two boys volleyball teams in the state who know each other better than North Kingstown and Coventry thanks to off-season volleyball with the Rhode Island Blast along with assorted summer beach leagues around the state.
EXETER - It will be an uphill battle this season if the Exeter/West Greenwich boys volleyball team hopes to repeat their success from last spring, but that is not letting them have anything but positive aspirations for 2013.
NORTH KINGSTOWN â Sometimes a fresh outlook on things is all it takes and that is just what the North Kingstown High School boys tennis team will have as it takes the court this season.
Matt Marion takes over as coach for the Skippers in his first endeavor into high school coaching as NK searches for its first winning season since the spring of 2008.
A long-standing coach on the individual and professional level, Marion looks to bring that same approach to the Skippers this season.
