Thundermist receives $5 million for new building

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Thundermist Health Center received $5 million this week to build a new patient-centered facility at its 1 River St., Wakefield site.

The nonprofit community health center also received another $228,812 to renovate its West Warwick dental facility.

The funds are part of $6.2 million Rhode Island received in federal funding from the Affordable Care Act to support community health centers. The East Bay Community Action Program in Newport and the Comprehensive Community Action in Cranston also received $500,000 each.

New recycling gig for Scrap Specialists

NARRAGANSETT—The idea to found a recycling business came from a casual conversation between two college friends, Cory Harrigan of Narragansett and Dylan Gregory of South Kingstown. The dialogue burgeoned as the discussed the need to develop incentive for businesses to recycle, and now the two undergraduates at the University of Rhode Island are owners of Scrap Specialists Recycling, investing their money to purchase 12 dumpsters and contracting their collection services with local vendors.

After debate, NK adopts 2013 budget

NORTH KINGSTOWN – After months of town council meetings, joint meetings with the school committee and hearings from the public, the North Kingstown Town Council unanimously approved a budget of $95,607,925 for the 2012/2013 fiscal year Tuesday evening, an increase of $2,708,102 from t2011/2012.
The tax levy will go from $17.26 to $17.53, a 2.08 percent increase with will yield an average annual increase of $90 per household.
