Tight battles define today's primaries

NORTH KINGSTOWN– After a summer of contentious debate, the battle between incumbent Larry Ehrhardt and political newcomer Sharon Gamba comes to an end Tuesday afternoon as voters in North Kingstown will head to the polls and choose one of the two as the Republican nomination for the District 32 race.

URI opens College of Pharmacy building

KINGSTON - The University of Rhode Island celebrated on Tuesday the opening of the newest facility on campus, a $75 million, 144,000 square-foot 5-story building for the College of Pharmacy. URI President David Dooley cut the ribbon in front of the new building surrounded by state and university dignitaries.

NBEP working to preserve local watersheds

September 10, 2012

KINGSTON - The Narragansett Bay Estuary Program (NBEP) is currently in the process of updating its Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP), a document which serves as a guideline for local and state governments and organizations involved with the preservation of the Narragansett Bay watershed area. NBEP will seek public comment from August 29 to September 17 in order that the Plan is as responsive to local concerns as possible.

Klotz to serve eight years for kidnapping attempt

September 10, 2012

SOUTH KINGSTOWN - Matthew Klotz, 27, of 244 Hempstead St., New London, Connecticut, pleaded no contest on Wednesday to a number of charges stemming from his attempted kidnapping of a Narragansett woman last October. Klotz, who was sentenced by Superior Court Justice Melanie Thunberg, will serve over 30 years between prison time and probation.

Campaigns wind down for GOP candidates

One owns his own insurance agency. One is a technical writer. One owns a jewelry manufacturing company in Johnston.

But all will be united on a ballot for both the Town of East Greenwich and a small portion of the Town of West Greenwich to decide which GOP member will challenge for the District 30 seat in the state’s House of Representatives this coming Tuesday.

Prostitute arrested by EG Police

September 10, 2012

East Greenwich police recently made an arrest of a woman who was involved in a prostitution act on Long Street.

Marissa Rose Anderson, 21, of 296 Lincoln Ave., Fall River, Mass., was placed into custody on Aug. 28 by officers after she was caught in an undercover sting after receiving the initial call from an acquaintance in Massachusetts a couple days prior.
