September 17th
SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Bishop Thomas J. Tobin along with 15 visiting priests and The Prout School’s own chaplain, Father Joseph Upton, celebrated a mass at the school Wednesday to mark the installation of David Carradini as principal.
The mass was attended by the largest number of priests to serve with the bishop in the school’s history. The school’s 600 students were also in attendance along with Prout’s faculty and staff, guests from other catholic schools and local community and government leaders.

EXETER – When a major weather event is on the way, residents receive constant advisories via computer, TV and radio, but what about the animals housed at the town’s shelter on South County Trail?
Who’s looking out for their safety?
As it happens, in another example of inter-departmental teamwork, Stefan Coutoulakis and Steve Mattscheck – directors, respectively, of emergency management and public works/the shelter – have put their heads together over this very topic. They have arrived at a plan adapted from one used in coastal Louisiana.

JOHNSTON - The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) made a profit of $1.94 million from the sale of recyclables in the Fiscal Year 2012, and last Thursday, Sept. 6, that money was divided up to the cities and towns of the state.
RIRRC Director Michael O’Connell and Gov. Lincoln Chafee personally handed out checks to all the municipal officials in attendance, including those from the North Kingstown and Exeter areas.

WEST GREENWICH—A handful of frustrated parents addressed the Exeter-West Greenwich school committee Tuesday night concerning the switch to “group stops” for students receiving out-of-district transportation to Monsignor Matthew F. Clarke Catholic Regional School and The Prout School, both in Wakefield.
Parents expressed concern at the timing of the change, saying students attending the two schools were not told until the night before the first day of classes that it would be put in place.

NORTH KINGSTOWN—Moments after the results came in from the fifth and final voting precinct in District 32 Tuesday night, State Representative Larry Ehrhardt was asked how he felt about the 27-vote margin that appeared to decide his Republican primary race in favor of his opponent, political newcomer Sharon Gamba.
Because the race was so tight and the margin of victory so small, Ehrhardt felt it was too soon to make a statement touting victory or conceding defeat and wanted to wait, instead, on the mail-in ballots that had yet to be counted.

The race for District 32 continues.
After a long and contentious battle between incumbent Larry Ehrhardt and political newcomer Sharon Gamba came down to just 16 votes Tuesday, Gamba officially asked for a recount Wednesday.

As you probably know, Monday of last week was scheduled to be orientation day for school department faculty and staff. The Educational Support Professionals (“ESP”) bargaining unit met and decided on a “work stoppage” for everyone except the year-round, hourly paid clerks who would be the only employees to suffer financial harm if they didn’t report to their offices.

NORTH KINGSTOWN– After a summer of contentious debate, the battle between incumbent Larry Ehrhardt and political newcomer Sharon Gamba comes to an end Tuesday afternoon as voters in North Kingstown will head to the polls and choose one of the two as the Republican nomination for the District 32 race.
