Multiple seats up for grabs in EG

EAST GREENWICH — Area officials are now taking the first steps in making that mad push to be voted into one of those coveted seats within local government for this coming election year this week.

And in the very near future, voters within East Greenwich will have a complete idea of who they will be looking at on the ballots at various polling places this coming November.

Varnum Continentals president given one last salute

EAST GREENWICH – Outgoing Varnum Continentals President Bruce MacGunnigle loves to hand out certificates, something he has done countless times for new members and those who have achieved.

But the retiring MacGunnigle had no idea he would be the recipient of a new certificate for meritorious service after 26 years of service to the Continentals, first as Colonel, then as President.

The surprise framed certificate – the first-ever Howard Vernon Allen Award – was created for MacGunnigle and given to him at the group’s June meeting, its last of the current fiscal year.

Local theater closer to taking center stage

EAST GREENWICH — For theater goers throughout the town, they will have to wait just a bit longer to see the curtain rise at the Greenwich Odeum Theater.

Odeum president Frank Prosnitz addressed the Council last Monday on the status as to how the renovations are going with the historic performing arts center on Main Street and that the project fell a little bit behind schedule for various reasons.

Town reaches one-year deal with new insurance carrier

EAST GREENWICH — No reptiles or aquatic waterfowl were involved in the following municipal property, casualty and liability insurance primer.

With only days to spare before its prior insurance contract expired, the Town Council voted unanimously Thursday night to enter into a one-year agreement with Hub International , an insurance broker, to be its property, casualty and liability carrier.

Officials to tackle prescription drug issue

EAST GREENWICH — Prescription medication is vital for people who are ailing with various health reasons so they can get back onto their feet and regain some normalcy.

However, there has been a significant rise in prescription drug abuse around the area, East Greenwich included, and local officials want to rectify the problem as quick as possible before the problem becomes uncontrollable.
