NORTH KINGSTOWN—Ed Tarbox stood on the showroom floor of his brand-new car dealership located on Quaker Lane in North Kingstown Friday afternoon and, for a moment, pondered all the obstacles he had to go through over the past nine years to make the 49,000-square foot complex a reality.

NARRAGANSETT—As the students leave for new challenges and summer vacation locales, teachers remain behind a bit longer. Some recap the experiences of the previous year, scrutinizing what could have been done better and what worked well. A select few, however, will pack up their belongings and not return as they retire from the teaching world.

RICHMOND – Former Mews Tavern co-owner Steve Grandolfi is finally pursuing his dream of owning a “Mom and Pop” restaurant.
Grandolfi recently purchased a pizzeria, located at 410 Kingstown Road, Richmond, which he renamed Pop’s Pizza. The restaurant is named after his father, who is depicted in the restaurant’s logo.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The South Kingstown Town Council granted $50,000 plus an additional $19,500 for fees to the South Kingstown Land Trust at Monday night’s meeting, providing the Land Trust with the means to purchase the development rights to more than 14 acres of Browning Farm in Matunuck.
The motion passed 4-0-0 with one recusal, as Councilman Jim O’Neill Councilman Jim O’Neill recused himself from the discussion and vote on the issue, which he has done at previous meetings.

COVENTRY — A recent Coventry High School graduate was given the chance to take her hard work and research on D-Day and present it to Congress in Washington D.C. in May.
Amanda Hoskins, who graduated this month, said it all began when her Advanced Placement History teacher, Lisa Johansen asked her class who would be interested in going to France with her.
She explained that she wrote her teacher a short letter explaining why she wanted to travel to France; Johansen then selected her for the trip.

Former North Kingstown High School and current University of Florida swim star Elizabeth Beisel won the 400 Individual Medley at the US Olympic Swimming Trials Monday night in Omaha, Neb. with a time of 4 minutes, 31.74 seconds.
Beisel, the Gators' sophomore, was the No. 1 seed going into the event and finished 3.85 seconds ahead of Caitlin Leverenz. The former Skipper star made her move in her best stroke, the backstroke, finishing that portion of the race in 1:09.19 to take a commanding lead after swimming the fly in a solid 1:03.75.

NORTH KINGSTOWN– Five local schools picked up some extra cash at the grocery store earlier this month when the Stop & Shop on Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown gave out over $5,700 as part of the company’s A+ Bonus Bucks Program.
The initiative allows shoppers to use their Stop & Shop card to raise money for local schools. Every dollar spent is equal to one point. The points are divided up and participating schools are awarded money that can be spent on anything they need.
