Town, fire union claim victory after ruling

NORTH KINGSTOWN—From the moment the North Kingstown Town Council passed a highly controversial ordinance forcibly implementing a three-platoon system where town firefighters would work 24-hour shifts every three days, members from both the council and the fire union, North Kingstown Firefighters Association, Local 1651, IAFF, argued that the battle was inevitably heading to court.

SKHS 'heading in the right direction'

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Last fall, South Kingstown High School underwent decennial accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The newly released report details the findings and lists commendations and recommendations for South Kingstown High School.

According to SKHS Principal Bob McCarthy, the overall findings of the report are positive.

“We’re definitely headed in the right direction, this is a good school, a very good school,” he said. “And I think that the report reflects that.”

New beach pavilions open for summer

CHARLESTOWN - Memorial Day Weekend is not only a celebration of brave soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their homeland, it has also become a celebration of the changing of the season and the coming of summer. This is no more evident than along the sandy coast of southern Rhode Island, when the weekend serves as the unofficial first group of beach days of the year.
