EG police apprehend three for burglary

EAST GREENWICH — In a matter of two hours, local police may have solved the mystery of multiple break-ins within a local community with the apprehension of three suspects late last week.

East Greenwich Police, along with the assistance of several local departments – including the State Police – arrested three burglars who were at-large a couple of hours after they broke into the residence at 1895 Middle Rd. early Friday morning.

Soccer helped keep Ling focused

EAST GREENWICH — When the life of a typical senior became hectic for Daniel Ling – finding the right college to attend, earning the highest grade possible in all of his classes, etc. – the valedictorian for East Greenwich High School found solace in one small place.

Actually, that place is about 120 yards in length and 80 yards in width, complete with two goals on opposite ends of the field.

Ben Pallant was never afraid to experiement

EAST GREENWICH — Benjamin Pallant never had any fear of trying things that would make him afraid at first.

During his final year as a high-school student, the salutatorian at East Greenwich High School took to the stage for the first time back in the winter, playing the role of Sir Harry in the Drama Club’s winter production of “Once Upon A Mattress.” One of the driving forces for him to shine – and sing – under the bright lights was because his sister had done numerous plays in the past at the school.

Sequino to help 'The City On The Move'

EAST GREENWICH — William Sequino has spent close to a quarter century making sure that the Town of East Greenwich remains afloat financially and be one of the more thriving communities in Rhode Island.

Now, the Town Manager will have quite the challenge on his hands, along with four others, to prevent “The City On The Move” from moving further down the financial drain.

It was already a pretty busy news cycle last week – Governor Chafee’s executive order on gay marriage, the Channel 12 poll on the 1st Congressional district primary and the tussle over Woonsocket’s supplemental tax bill – and then the 38 Studios fiasco came and sucked all the oxygen out of the room.
Really, the only surprising thing about this news is that it seemed to take everyone by surprise.
Just about everyone in Rhode Island, except then-Gov. Donald Carcieri and his pick for EDC honcho, Keith Stokes, said at the time that this deal was irresponsible to the point of lunacy.
