There are reports circulating that Wagner's Danny Hurley will have a decision today as to if he will accept the offer to become the next coach of the University of Rhode Island men's basketball team, one thing is certain - it will be difficult for him to bring a key assistant coach along.
Bobby Hurley is Danny's older brother and currently an assistant at Wagner. A report from silive.com - a Staten Island-based website - said should Danny Hurley come to URI, the school would try to keep Bobby on as head coach.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Accusations from teachers and taxpayers that Superintendent Dr. Kristen Stringfellow is controlling the school committee hung in the air Tuesday night.
“It’s hard not to consider the superintendent doesn’t have an agenda of her own, who’s interest is not the education of students in South Kingstown but to serve out her contract and to lay out the foundation for another job elsewhere,” Stephen Burke, a South Kingstown resident said.
The school committee defended Stringfellow, whom they hired in 2009.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – During the spring 2010 flood, North Kingstown sustained heavy roadway damage and thousands of homes in the area suffered flooded basements.
Even though it’s been two years since that event, many residents are still feeling the effects.
None more so than the residents of Featherbed Lane, which is located on the crest of dam that gave out and is still closed to traffic.

NARRAGANSETT—In 2004, Rhode Island established the Low and Moderate Income Housing Act, legislation aimed at increasing the amount of affordable housing units by creating a 10 percent threshold that municipalities had to ideally meet, or submit a plan for achieving that number in the future. In Narragansett, 462 affordable housing units would need to be built to meet the 10 percent figure, and in South Kingstown, 390, according to HousingWorksRI.

It was a busy weekend for rumors in Kingston over the weekend about Wagner's Danny Hurley taking the job as head coach for the URI men's basketball team.
GoLocalProv.com reported Hurley had been hired to replace the departed Jim Baron, a report URI AD Thorr Bjorn denied when reached by the Providence Journal Friday night.
Bjorn didn't deny - and reading the report, didn't confirm either - Hurley had visited the campus, but now there is no doubt Hurley was in Kingston Saturday morning.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN – For FY 2013 the school committee has requested a property tax transfer of only 0.3 percent to support its $58.2 million budget.
The budget is down since the school committee first adopted it in January. The original budget was $58.8 million with a 1.6 percent tax transfer.
“Since the South Kingstown School Department budget projections are made in the fall, recent trending in various budget lines has allowed us to make some positive changes,” Superintendent Dr. Kristen Stringfellow said.

WEST GREENWICH – After five years as superintendent of the Exeter-West Greenwich school district, Dr. Thomas Geismar announced this week that he will resign from his position at the end of the school year.
A 62 year-old grandfather of two, Geismar said he and his wife will be moving to northern Florida to be closer to their three children and he will leave with a lifetime of knowledge and great accomplishments under his belt.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Carol Freeborn Perry has been a Grange member for more than 40 years, watching the agrarian organization evolve from a socio-political force into an entity deeply committed to community service activities.
Like the gardens in her backyard on Ten Rod Road, Carol's roots run deep in the consortium founded in the midwestern farm belt in 1867 as the National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Helen Beaven, who will celebrate her 95th birthday in June, readily admits that back in the day when she and her best friend of more than 60 years, Rita Perry, were raising their families, “We ran everything. Rita and I got things going.”
In fact, Rita – who died last year – and Helen had made such a success of guiding the PTA that they were summoned in the late 1940s by a descendant of the town’s founders and told to devote their talents to forming a Girl Scout troop.

WOOD RIVER JUNCTION - The Chariho School Committee adopted the Fiscal Year 2013 budget on Tuesday night, after one final altercation that will relieve $200,000 from the member towns’ contribution bottom line. The budget will now be put to the will of the voters at an April 10 referendum.
