Teacher retaining report unveiled

EAST GREENWICH — Seniority will no longer be the driving force behind teacher assignments or promotions if school officials have their way.

Against a backdrop of nonexistent negotiations on a new teacher contract, which is set to expire Aug. 31, Superintendent Victor Mercurio presented the report of the Commission on Retaining High Quality Teachers to the School Committee Tuesday night.

No DUI charge for Rep. Watson

February 9, 2012

State Rep. Robert A. Watson (R-Dist 30, East Greenwich, West Greenwich), still facing a charge of possession of marijuana in connection with his Jan. 21 arrest in South Kingstown, was spared additional legal jeopardy this week when the town's Police Department announced it would not charge him with driving under the influence.

Whooping cough case reported at CMS

WOOD RIVER JUNCTION - There has been one confirmed case of Whooping cough (Pertussis) at Chariho Middle School, and while it does not seem to have spread, the district will not be taking any chances.
