âPeople say, âYou canât buy American-made clothing,ââ Smith said. âItâs got to be American-made. I donât think this country would be in the position itâs in if people felt that way.â
For Ed Smith, âMade in Americaâ is more than an empty slogan. Chariho Furniture prides itself on selling only American-made solid-wood furniture. They carry over 100 different brands, 20 of them Amish, and they specialize in pieces made to the customerâs exacting specifications. Everything can be customized, from the wood to the fabric to the finish to the hardware.

SOUTH KINGSTOWNâAt the bi-monthly meeting Tuesday evening, the South Kingstown School Committee discussed ways to address the needs of public members who bring issues forward that require further conversation. In light of recent verbal altercations during both school committee and South Kingstown Town Council meetings between members of the public and the respective groups, more innovative approaches have been contemplated to bring citizens into the school committeeâs decision-making.
Superintendent of Schools Kristen Stringfellow provided her report from the Professional Development and Communications sub-committee, the group responsible for discussing and generating ideas about committee meeting procedures.

NARRAGANSETTâIncumbent and Democrat V. Susan Sosnowski squared off with challenger John Lindholm for Rhode Island Senate district 37 (South Kingstown, New Shoreham) in an open forum with the public on Wednesday evening. The talk, organized by the Narragansett/South Kingstown Chapter of the League of Women Voters, allowed candidates running in Novemberâs elections the opportunity to detail their plans and viewpoints regarding a number of important issues across the state.

NORTH KINGSTOWNâPrior to the North Kingstown School Committeeâs scheduled work session on Tuesday evening, members of the school committee, staff, family and friends joined Superintendent Philip Auger in honoring two North Kingstown education workers.
Receiving awards were Toni-Annette Sylveira, named Teacher of the Year and Elizabeth Tully, taking Top Educational Support Worker of the Year.
