Hurricane Watch: Narragansett Evacuation Notice

The Town of Narragansett is recommending that all preparations for the anticipated hurricane be completed by 3pm Saturday, and, all boats on mooring and slips be removed as soon as possible. THe Town of Narragansett is issuing a mandatory evacuation of low-lying areas to be completed by 10 a.m. These areas include Great Island, Harbor Island, Sand Hill Cove, Jerusalem, Breakwater Village and Bonnet Shores. Keep checking back at the town website http://www.narragansettri.gov or The Narragansett Times for updates on the hurricane.

East Greenwich battens down for Irene

Residents forced to evacuate by the oncoming Hurricane Irene and requiring shelter will be bused to Red Cross shelters out of town, local officials said Thursday night.
A scheduled work session between the Town Council and East Greenwich Fire District Board of Commissioners turned into an emergency planning conference as they discussed plans to deal with what could be Rhode Island's first direct encounter with a hurricane since Bob pounded the area in 1991.

Watching Hurricane Irene: SK Officials make preparations for impending storm

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – With a Category 3 hurricane expected to hit Southern New England by Sunday, South Kingstown officials gathered at the police department on Kingstown Road to discuss emergency plans Wednesday afternoon.

The Weather Channel said Wednesday Hurricane Irene threatens to become the strongest hurricane to hit the Northeast in a decade and South Kingstown did not waste any time making sure they were ready.

WWII aircraft arriving at Quonset

NORTH KINGSTOWN – It’s safe to say that Dave Payne, executive director and board president of the Quonset Air Museum, is like a kid awaiting Santa Claus.
For Payne and other devotees of aircraft history and warfare, this coming weekend will represent a sort of snapshot of World War II. Six vintage planes owned by the Texas Flying Legends Museum will arrive on Friday and stay for the weekend.

South Kingstown anticipates a mandatory evacuation

SOUTH KINGSTOWN - According to the Town of South Kingstown, a mandatory evacuation along the South Shore coastline, Narrow River, and other low-lying areas is anticipated. Persons in these areas should be preparing to seek shelter with family and friends.

Once a formal evacation declaration is issued, the South Kingstown High School will serve as the Town's main emergency shelter; located at 215 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI 02879. The Animal Shelter on Asa Pond Road (789-5515) is available if you need emergency shelter for your animal; current vaccination records are required.
