NARRAGANSETT—Oftentimes when a person’s life has presented many challenges and obstacles along the way, there may be no greater achievement than to be recognized for one’s work when evening begins to fall. Maury Klein, a professor emeritus at the University of Rhode Island and author of 16 books, will garnish such acknowledgment as a 2011 inductee to the Rhode Island Hall of Fame.
NARRAGANSETT – Rachel D’Ambrosio grew up on the water, water skiing, knee boarding and swimming. During those summer days, D’Ambrosio applied a 30 SPF sunscreen because she was fair skinned. She was always told that the sun could cause skin cancer because of harmful ultraviolet rays, but she never really understood what that meant until she turned 11.

I realize the prevailing passion is to say “screw those state employees and their unions, what part of ‘there is no money’ don’t they understand?’
And that is a fine stance for someone to make a political point or a talk-show rant. But the law is the law and a judge is going to have to go by the law.
HOPKINTON -- The fate of the proposed $24.07 million budget for fiscal year 2011-12 rests on the hands of the taxpayers who turn out to the poll today.
