The recent rescue of a kayaker from a Narragansett Bay buoy wasnât quite all in a dayâs work for the East Greenwich Fire Districtâs Marine 1 crew.
âIt was two guys with binoculars, looking for a needle in a haystack,â Deputy Chief Russell McGillivray said of the June 9 rescue of a North Kingstown kayaker whose boat capsized during a vicious thunderstorm that ripped through the bay.

When Charles E. âChuckâ Brennan Jr. is hard at work in the deli at Daveâs Market on Tower Hill Road, he gets to cut through the baloney on a regular basis â a feat thatâs not as easy in his other job as a town councilman.
While, technically, his meat-cutting involves bologna â spelled a different way â you get the point.
âI cut the baloney every day,â says Chuck, who has been working at Daveâs since May. Heâs following in a family tradition: daughter Andrea Mumford worked at Daveâs through high school and college; another daughter, Kaitlin, works now at the Quonset market.
