COVENTRY — The harsh reality for the Coventry baseball team is this: It doesn’t matter what the playoff-chasing Oakers do against I-South leaders North Kingstown and East Greenwich.
What matters for the Oakers is winning games against Tiverton, Chariho and Portsmouth to earn a spot in the playoffs.

Exeter seeking slight increase

EXETER—Like a master chef holding a potful of an untested recipe, Exeter Town Council assistant Ken Findlay sat in front of his laptop computer Thursday night with the proposed FY 2012 budget for the Town of Exeter at his fingertips and did his best to see which combination of cuts and increases would please the greatest number of town council members during a special budget workshop meeting.
Tomorrow night, though, is the real test as that recipe goes out for public consumption for the first time.

PROVIDENCE - After it came to light that convicted child killer Michael Woodmansee could be released from prison 12 years earlier due to good time behavior, state lawmakers rushed to make sure that it would never happen again. Last Thursday they did just that.
