KINGSTON â The last play will be the easiest to remember, especially because of the way it turned out.
Everyone in the Ryan Center knew Marquis Jones was getting the ball and that explains why La Salle did everything it could to prevent him from taking it to the basket, instead forcing the senior to take a 3-pointer deep off the left wing.
It was the play that decided Saturdayâs game, but it wasnât the reason URI lost to La Salle, 76-75, Saturday afternoon.
Some stats from halftime:
-URI shoots an impressive 8 for 30, making a stout 3 of 16 from the 3-point line. What's impressive is that they kept trying to shoot from deep when it obviously wasn't working.
-La Salle's Aaric Murray picked up two quick fouls and only played nine minutes. He scored eight points. Had he not picked up the second foul, URI would be in some serious trouble.
-URI forced 12 turnovers, which would be great if it didn't commit nine.
-The Rams have assisted on 75 percent of their field goals, which would be an awesome stat if they had made more than eight buckets.

When her old clubâs membership began to dim, Dorothy Trehy didnât let the light of volunteerism go out.
One of the founders of the East Greenwich Civic Club, and its final president in 1989-90, Trehy experienced some of the frustration of watching the changing times erode the membership of her group, which from 1977 to 1990 staged the Luminaria Caravan during holiday season as a fundraiser for numerous local organizations.
âWe couldnât find people willing to take office,â she says resignedly, remembering the days when the event would draw crowds to large houses, local churches and the former Royal Crest nursing home, now Atria Harborhill.
