CHARLESTOWN - A proposal aimed to give full-time Charlestown residents a tax credit of up to $1,000 per year on their property taxes was presented by the Charlestown Democratic Town Committee (CDTC) at the Nov. 14 town council meeting.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Foodie’s of Wickford, the gourmet shop and bistro which opened this past January at 21 West Main St. – the owners previously sold high-end chocolates and imported cheeses in a building behind the restaurant – has closed.
Jim Zajas, a partner with Craig Schennum, in Foodie’s as well as two Consignment Goods stores, said of the closing “In the end, it was a relief. It wasn’t doing enough business to keep it going.”

If the holiday season is approaching you know it’s time for another of Roberta Humble’s tributes to Rhode Island.
Since 2000, the longtime CCRI English teacher and first woman president of the North Kingstown Rotary Club has produced three books and two games extolling the virtues and quirks of our little state.
This year, in a burst of enthusiastic energy, she’s launching both a book and a game.

EAST GREENWICH — East Greenwich Deputy Fire Chief Russell McGillivray, suspended for two days with pay following an incident two weeks ago at a state Fire Marshal's Office training class, will not face further disciplinary action from the district's Board of Fire Commissioners.
Meeting in executive session Thursday night, the board refused to divulge any vote taken on further disciplinary action against McGillivray in the wake of an NBC10 I-Team report alleging that he had dropped his pants during a training session.

CHARLESTOWN - The Rhode Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex (RINWRC), a division of the National Fish and Wildlife Service, is in the process of constructing a White-tailed Deer Management Plan for the Block Island and Ninigret National Wildlife Refuges. A public workshop was held at the Kettle Pond Visitors Center on Thursday, Nov. 10, to collect public input on the plan and to answer questions.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Over a month since a grand jury found former North Kingstown resident Kimberly Fry guilty of second-degree murder of her daughter Camden, a judge denied her request for a new trial Monday afternoon in Washington County Superior Court.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Knowing that without pension reform, South Kingstown faces an unfunded liability of $19.7 million for its municipal employee retirement system, the Town Council supports pension reform and last week's amendments to the state pension bill.

In an effort to distribute South County-related tourism materials, the South County Tourism Council (SCTC) has acquired space at the Pilot Travel Center at Exit 93 off Route 95 in Connecticut. The move was a direct result of the closing of the Rhode Island Welcome Center.
