EAST GREENWICH--The Division I girls volleyball playoffs may not officially start until next week but, Tuesday night in East Greenwich, the postseason atmosphere was very much alive and kicking as the Avengers battled Chariho for the sixth and final playoff seed in D-I.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Some of the school committee members feel the pension system is being resolved on the backs of the teachers. At Tuesday night’s meeting they tabled voting on a resolution to the next meeting so that they could craft one more specific to their concerns, including raising the retirement age to age 67.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – A year after a spree of robberies in Narragansett, East Greenwich and North Kingstown left four elderly women victimized, former Narragansett resident Michael Brooks, 50, pleaded no contest Friday in Rhode Island Superior Court to four counts of first degree robbery.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN—Michael Brooks, 50, pleaded no contest to four counts of first degree robbery for holding up and robbing four elderly women in towns across South County in August 2010. Brooks, whose last known address was 125 Knowlesway Extension, Narragansett, was brought before Superior Court Justice William Carnes and sentenced to 40 years in prison with 35 as a maximum to serve.
