The new year has started and for one committed group of student athletes a new tradition has begun.
The Coventry High School indoor track team participated on Jan. 1 in the polar bear plunge that takes place locally and all across the country.
Their group specifically, took part in the Newport Polar Bearâs Plunge raising money for A Wish Come True.

Patricia Raskin, host of the âPatricia Raskin Positive Livingâ radioÂ show on WPRO 630 AM, canât sit still without filling that glass to the top, while bringing a tray of other filled glasses for guests.
Raskin, an East Greenwich resident, is launching a new radio show on AM 790 WPRV, called âPositive Business with Patricia Raskin,â which airs on Jan. 7. The West Hartford, Conn. native puts such a positive spin on things, it can get dizzying.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN â As the Tuesday nightâs snowstorm dumped a foot of snow on South Kingstown, it forced schools and businesses to close, making it a lot easier for those who have to get rid of the snow to do their job.
âAt this point, crews came in about midnight and worked right through,â Jon Schock, the townâs Public Services Director said Wednesday morning. âMany roads are passable. There are very few cars on the roads, which helps with plowing.â
