Board to research facility options for Charlestown beaches

CHARLESTOWN – The Town Council voted unanimously Monday night to create an ad hoc committee that will look into solutions, both permanent and temporary, for the facilities at the Charlestown and Blue Shutters town beaches.

Track team takes the plunge

The new year has started and for one committed group of student athletes a new tradition has begun.
The Coventry High School indoor track team participated on Jan. 1 in the polar bear plunge that takes place locally and all across the country.
Their group specifically, took part in the Newport Polar Bear’s Plunge raising money for A Wish Come True.

East Greenwich’s Patricia Raskin lives by the rule of positivity

The pessimist sees the glass as half empty. The optimist sees the glass as half full.
Patricia Raskin, host of the “Patricia Raskin Positive Living” radio show on WPRO 630 AM, can’t sit still without filling that glass to the top, while bringing a tray of other filled glasses for guests.
Raskin, an East Greenwich resident, is launching a new radio show on AM 790 WPRV, called “Positive Business with Patricia Raskin,” which airs on Jan. 7. The West Hartford, Conn. native puts such a positive spin on things, it can get dizzying.

South County plows through the storm

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – As the Tuesday night’s snowstorm dumped a foot of snow on South Kingstown, it forced schools and businesses to close, making it a lot easier for those who have to get rid of the snow to do their job.
“At this point, crews came in about midnight and worked right through,” Jon Schock, the town’s Public Services Director said Wednesday morning. “Many roads are passable. There are very few cars on the roads, which helps with plowing.”
