In its financial report for what was an otherwise strong third quarter for the Canada-based coffee chain, Tim Hortons announced that it effectively closed 36 locations with 34 of those being in the Providence and Hartford, Conn., markets last week.
NARRAGANSETT – Local Sauderstown resident Jacqueline Gannon, 22, is heading to Guinea in West Africa as part of the Peace Corps.
Upon her departure on Jan. 13, Gannon will begin her training as a health educator Peace Corps volunteer. After graduation from volunteer training in March, Gannon will be working to raise awareness and increase prevention of HIV and AIDS and malaria, and to promote nutrition, vaccinations and hygiene.
ARRAGANSETT–After all five reelected members of the Town Council were sworn in at Monday's meeting, Glenna Hagopian was elected by council members as the new President in a 3-2 vote. Chris Wilkens and Susan Cicilline-Buonnano voted for the latter as President. David Crook was elected as President pro tempe in an identical vote.

RICHMOND – A Charlestown man was arrested Nov. 6 after police responded to a dispute on Lewiston Avenue in Richmond and found 52 marijuana plants.
Vicki B. (Burton) Lucke, 62, of Birchwood Lane, West Warwick, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2010 at Greenwood Care & Rehabilitation Center in Warwick.
Her funeral service and interment will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. David R. LaRose, 61, of Jodin Street, West Warwick, and formerly of Seneca Street, Coventry, died on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 at home.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 6-8 p.m. in the Potvin & Cotter Funeral Home, 45 Curson St., West Warwick. A committal service with military honors will be held on Friday, Nov. 19, at 10:30 a.m. in the Columbarium Chapel of the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, South County Trail, Exeter. Family and friends should gather inside the cemetery entrance at 10:15 a.m. Please omit flowers.
