WEST GREENWICH – As his players joked heading into the postgame handshake, Exeter-West Greenwich boys soccer coach Matt Savoie shouted out a quick reminder that regardless of the result in Monday, it’s not going to matter for long.
“Guys, it’s only Round 2. There’s one more to go,” he said after the Knights’ 4-1 drubbing of rival Tiverton Monday. “This one means nothing.”
Monday’s win over the Tiverton – the same school that beat them 1-0 in last year’s Division III semifinals and again 1-0 earlier this season – didn’t exactly mean nothing.

LINCOLN — With close to 20 minutes left in the match on Monday night at Chet Nichols Field, a few rain drops began to fall and a couple of “uh ohs” were uttered by a few soccer players from both the Chariho and Lincoln girls squads.
But the deluge on the scoreboard occurred very early in the match and the Chargers’ mindset of hoping to start anew and get back on the winning track was flooded with the thoughts of “here we go again.”

NARRAGANSETT — The Coventry boys soccer team had the first and last goal-scoring chance in Friday’s Division II-South contest with Narragansett.
Every chance in between those Oaker efforts belonged to the Mariners and the home side made the most of its opportunities.
Narragansett, needing a win to stay in the hunt for a Division II playoff spot, received two goals apiece from sophomore forward Tod Wright and senior midfielder Pat Stone in a 7-0 victory over the struggling Oakers.

NORTH KINGSTOWN — Headed to the bench after a dramatic comeback in Game 2 of Monday night’s battle with North Kingstown, the South Kingstown girls volleyball didn’t huddle up and start talking about how they could finish off the Skippers and avoid a collapse that’s been synonymous with the Rebels this season.
